Smite is a traditional moba with lanes, minions, level farming, item purchasing and requires a good group of people to really coordinate with. Every character can do what they do and do it well. You don't have carry gods and useless wimps for characters. Paladins came out a good bit before overwatch, and honestly I'm sad that paladins is trying to copy some of the features of overwatch (Play of the game, ect)īut in reality? It's all about the skillshots, and it makes for some fast-paced matches that are so satisfying when you get the hang of things :) Wouldn't hurt to try it out either way, can't beat free! I play LoL, HotS, and Smite, but this one stands out from the rest because of the 3rd-person view. SmiteGuru and SmiteFire are good sites to get the jist of whichever gods you want to try. If you give it a try, I'd highly recommend watching fairly recent tutorial videos and checking out some build/play guides.

It takes time to get the feel for how each role plays, learning how to play (and play against) the 80-some gods, and learning all of the items and how to build for each god type. Don't know if you've played MOBAs before, but they're all like that. It's really not as bad as some people will have you believe, but the servers are down more often than a game of this size and popularity should be.Īnother thing to note which may or may not be a downside for you, is I'm assuming it's more of a learning curve than Paladins. I'd say the main problem I have with the game is the servers. It's also well-optimized, good graphics, and fine to queue solo (although much better if you have friends to play with, it's a team game after all). You can also buy the Ultimate God Pack for $30 (goes on sale sometimes) to instantly unlock all current and future gods.

You can get all gods for free if you're willing to put the time into it, and logging in each day will give you free favor and gems to help buy gods and skins. It's a great game with a more than fair pricing model, you don't have to pay a dime to be on a level playing field, and they're pretty generous with giveaways and free cosmetic opportunities. No signs of slowing down anytime soon either. 851 hours into it on Steam alone, played more before it was on Steam. Smite, however, I've put hundreds of hours into. I haven't played Paladins yet, but I've heard a lot of good things from it. Smite's more of a MOBA with a 3rd-person action-oriented twist. Paladins is more of a team-oriented FPS from what I understand, in the group with Overwatch, Battleborn, etc. Sure they're made by the same company, but they're different genres. It seems like it'd be hard to compare the two.
